OpenAI doubles Work and Codex limits on ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium

People on OpenAI's top ChatGPT plans now get twice as much Work and Codex use for the same price. A cut planned for Pro 200 is off, too.

TL;DR

Did OpenAI raise ChatGPT Pro usage limits?

Yes. OpenAI doubled Work and Codex limits on its Pro plans and Business Premium yesterday, and canceled a planned cut. If you pay for one of those plans, you get about twice the use for the same price. Plus and Free users have nothing to do.

What did OpenAI change?

On October 29, 2026, OpenAI's ChatGPT release notes said Pro 100 and Pro 500 now get twice their previous Work and Codex allowance. Work is ChatGPT's agent for longer, more involved tasks, and Codex is OpenAI's coding agent.

The notes also say the Pro 200 reduction announced on September 29 is canceled. Pro 200 users who were on the lower allowance are doubled up to the same limit as everyone else on that plan.

Thibault Sottiaux, who leads Codex at OpenAI, announced it on X as "doubling all usage limits for all Pro 100/200/500 tiers and Business Premium, effective today." He added that usage for dot, ChatGPT's always-on agent, stays separate, with extended limits for now.

What does doubled usage mean for small teams?

If your business pays for one of these plans, you can hand ChatGPT more long jobs before hitting a wall. That might mean more reports drafted in Work or more fixes and tests from Codex on your website code.

Twice the allowance doesn't always mean twice the finished work. Big tasks still eat limits quickly, as one reply on X pointed out. Watch how fast you burn through it this week before deciding you can drop a second tool.

The Pro 200 reversal is worth noticing too. OpenAI dropped the cut after hearing from customers ("We heard your kind feedback," Sottiaux wrote), which shows AI pricing can still move when paying users speak up.

Our take

Good news for the people paying the most, and a smart retreat on Pro 200. Cutting limits on a plan people already paid for was always going to sting, and OpenAI backed off before it took effect.

For most small businesses, this doesn't change which plan to buy. The top plans are still a lot of money for a solo owner, and most people do fine lower down. If you're already on Pro or Business Premium, enjoy the extra room and see whether it lets you cancel something else.
