Google is shutting down Jules: export your work before November 11

Google's experimental coding helper has a closing date, and the real deadline comes first. Jules closes December 31, but you can only run sessions until November 11, so export your work now.

TL;DR

When is Google shutting down Jules?

Google is closing Jules on December 31, 2026, and moving it into Google Antigravity. You can only run sessions until November 11. If you used Jules, export your work with the Jules command-line tool before then. Your code already in GitHub stays put.

What is Google Jules and why is it closing?

Jules is Google's coding agent. You give it a task, like fixing a bug or adding a feature, and it works on your GitHub code in the background, then hands you the changes to review. Google said on October 29, 2026 that Jules will wind down and its ideas will live on inside Google Antigravity, which Google calls its agent-first platform.

The Jules team framed it as the end of an experiment.

"Asynchronous" here just means it works while you do something else, instead of chatting back and forth in real time.

What are the Jules shutdown dates?

November 11, 2026Last day to run Jules sessions; after this, Jules is read-only

The post on X doesn't give dates. They come from the Jules changelog.

How do you export your Jules data?

Google's changelog lists the steps. They use Jules Tools, a small command-line program you run in your computer's terminal:

  1. Install Jules Tools with npm, the standard installer for JavaScript tools. You need Node.js on your computer first.
  2. Sign in with the jules login command.
  3. Open a command-line coding agent, such as Claude Code, and paste the export prompt from the changelog. The agent runs the export and tells you what it saved.

The export includes your environment variable values, so Google says to keep the export folder private and out of your repositories.

If the terminal is new to you, ask someone who codes to sit with you for ten minutes. It's a short job for them.

Anything Jules already pushed to GitHub, including code, branches and pull requests (the change requests you approve), stays in your GitHub account. The export is for your Jules history and setup.

What should Jules users switch to?

Google points users to Antigravity. If you only used Jules now and then for small fixes, you have other options too, including the coding agents built into ChatGPT and Claude. Try one on a small task before you move anything important.

Our take

Fair play to Google for calling Jules an experiment and giving people an export. But less than two weeks of full use is tight notice for anyone who built a weekly routine around it. If you're a solo creator or small shop that leaned on Jules for site fixes, treat November 11 as the real date and export this week. The bigger lesson is boring and useful: free AI experiments come and go, so keep your instructions and prompts in your own files and your code in GitHub.

What to do

  • Put November 11, 2026 in your calendar as the last day to use Jules.
  • Run the export from the Jules changelog this week.
  • Copy any custom instructions or setup notes you gave Jules into your own document.
  • Check that your important changes are merged in GitHub.
  • Try Antigravity or another coding agent on one small task before committing.
  • Read our View on keeping your AI setup when tools shut down for a simple backup habit.

FAQ

Will I lose my code when Jules shuts down?

No. Google says code, branches and pull requests already in GitHub stay there.

Can I still use Jules after November 11?

Only to look at past work. Jules becomes read-only, so you can't start new sessions.

Do I need to pay for Google Antigravity?

Google's announcement doesn't cover pricing for Jules users moving over. Check Antigravity's own pricing page before you switch.

Do I need coding skills to export from Jules?

A little. The export uses a command-line tool and needs Node.js installed, so it helps to have someone technical walk you through it.
