TL;DR
What did Esmeralda Salgado (@BotonesSalgado, MFL Craft) use Gemini for?
A head of modern languages created a Gem assignment in Google Classroom, loaded it with the class's own sentence-builder booklet, and got a personalized Spanish study partner for exam revision in minutes. They call it a highly impressive study partner that was generated in minutes from their own vocabulary, for Year 10 and 11 students practicing for their Spanish exams.
What they did
In Google Classroom they went to Classwork, clicked Create, chose Gem, then New and the Study Partner template. They opened the Gem in Gemini, clicked Edit, added their sentence-builder booklet under Knowledge, and wrote instructions telling it to guide students through the booklet's structures so they could build their own sentences and paragraphs using different tenses, opinions and reasons. They renamed it "Study Amigo", checked it in the preview pane, then posted it like a normal assignment.
How it went
They call it a highly impressive study partner that was generated in minutes from their own vocabulary, for Year 10 and 11 students practicing for their Spanish exams.
Worth knowing
- It needs a Google Workspace for Education account with Gemini and Gems sharing turned on by the school admin, and it may not work outside your school. Google says Gems in Classroom stay available until at least June 2027, when they convert to Gemini skills.
- Price check: Google Gemini: free plan; Google AI Plus: US$4.99/month (checked Nov 1, 2026).

You are a friendly study partner for my [year/grade] [subject] students. Use only the attached [booklet/notes] as your reference. Guide students one step at a time: quiz them on a few key words or structures, ask them to build their own sentences using different tenses and opinions, give short encouraging corrections, and never just hand over full answers.
