TL;DR

What did @educatedandfree use Claude for?

A high school student who missed a new pre-calc topic, with a quiz coming, sat with a parent and asked Claude to teach it; Claude explained slowly, gave practice problems, explained each mistake and kept going until the student was consistently getting them right in about 40 minutes. After about 40 minutes the student was consistently getting the practice problems right, as graded by Claude, and said they had it down better than friends who learned it in class. The parent, a former teacher, hadn't seen the quiz result yet when posting.

What they did

The student typed the very simple prompt "Teach this concept to me." Claude walked through the topic slowly, then gave practice problems. When the student got one wrong, Claude pointed out the error, gave the likely reason for it, and generated another problem.

How it went

After about 40 minutes the student was consistently getting the practice problems right, as graded by Claude, and said they had it down better than friends who learned it in class. The parent, a former teacher, hadn't seen the quiz result yet when posting.

Worth knowing

  • The quiz result wasn't in yet. The parent stresses doing this under a parent's supervision, and says real tests should still happen on paper so teachers see what the student actually knows.
  • Price check: Claude: free plan; Pro: US$20/month, or US$17/month on a yearly plan (US$200/year) (checked Nov 1, 2026).

I missed the class on [topic] in [subject]. Teach this concept to me step by step, slowly, and check that I understand before moving on. Then give me practice problems one at a time. When I get one wrong, show me my mistake and why I probably made it, then give me a similar problem. Keep going until I get 5 in a row right.
