TL;DR

What did Matt Fuller use ChatGPT for?

A physician recruiter who doesn't code much had ChatGPT suggest a free-tier stack, then built a phone agent with Twilio, Vapi and Calendly, with Cursor writing the code, so callers hear open times for a 30-minute intro call. On the first live call the agent answered as their assistant, found open 30-minute slots on the requested date and listed them, but couldn't complete the booking, so it gave the caller their Calendly link instead.

What they did

They asked ChatGPT for tools with free versions, bought a number with Twilio's free credit, and created the voice agent in Vapi using ChatGPT, prompted to book 30-minute intro calls about locum jobs. Calendly holds their availability. Cursor wrote the code from plain-English instructions, they filled in each service's keys in a .env file, pushed the files to GitHub, and deployed through Railway.

How it went

On the first live call the agent answered as their assistant, found open 30-minute slots on the requested date and listed them, but couldn't complete the booking, so it gave the caller their Calendly link instead.

Worth knowing

  • This was attempt one: the booking step failed, the agent didn't stop when interrupted, the voice wasn't the one they chose, and a trial-account message played before the call. They list these as fixes still to make.
  • Price check: ChatGPT: free plan; Go: US$8/month (checked Nov 1, 2026); Calendly: free plan; Standard: US$12/month, or US$10/month on a yearly plan (US$120/year) (checked Oct 26, 2026); Cursor: free plan; Plus: US$8/month, or US$6.67/month on a yearly plan (US$80/year) (checked Oct 26, 2026).

I want a phone agent that answers calls for my [business], explains [service] in two sentences, collects the caller's name, email and preferred date, checks my Calendly for open [30-minute] slots, and books one. I don't code much. Suggest tools with free versions and walk me through setup one step at a time.
