TL;DR

What did crazygringo (Hacker News) use VoiceInk for?

A Hacker News user says they now code with Claude almost entirely by voice, using the VoiceInk dictation app and a small Bluetooth media remote whose buttons they remapped to dictate, delete a word, add a new line, submit and scroll. They say they code with Claude "pretty much" exclusively by voice now "simply because it's so much faster."

What they did

They use VoiceInk for speech-to-text on a Mac and a Bluetooth multimedia remote. With Karabiner-Elements they mapped play/pause to the dictation shortcut, rewind to delete the last word, fast-forward to a new line, a lower button to Enter to send the prompt, and the volume buttons to scroll.

How it went

They say they code with Claude "pretty much" exclusively by voice now "simply because it's so much faster."

Worth knowing

  • Fixing a misheard word still means deleting and re-dictating; they want a second button for spoken edit commands. Other commenters point out that talking all day doesn't suit an open office, and some people find speaking tiring.
  • Price check: Claude: free plan; Pro: US$20/month, or US$17/month on a yearly plan (US$200/year) (checked Nov 1, 2026).

I'm going to dictate my request by voice, so it may have filler words, repeats and misheard terms. Clean it up into a clear request, ask me about any word that looks misheard, then answer it: [dictated text]
