TL;DR
What did u/Bonkz12 use ChatGPT for?
Asked how to stop re-explaining work context in every new chat, a ChatGPT user said they connect ChatGPT to Google Drive, have it update a master handoff document at the end of each session, and have it read that document at the start of the next one. They say it has been working for them, and they use the same idea for a personal project, updating the document after each milestone.
What they did
In a thread about losing work context between ChatGPT chats, they explained their setup: ChatGPT is connected to Google Drive, and after every session they tell it to create or update a master handoff document for that project and save it to Drive. At the start of the next session, they have ChatGPT read that handoff document first.
How it went
They say it has been working for them, and they use the same idea for a personal project, updating the document after each milestone.
Worth knowing
- They found that letting ChatGPT update the document on its own was inconsistent, so they now trigger the update themselves. Others in the thread warn that a handoff doc that only grows goes stale, so keep it short.

Try it yourself
Paste this into a chatbot, then add your own details underneath.
Before we finish, update my handoff document for this project in Google Drive. Keep it to one page: what the project is, the current state, decisions we made today and why, and open questions for next time. Replace old details instead of adding to the bottom.
