The provider documents these capabilities. The steps below are an editorial way to evaluate them; we have not independently reproduced the result.
What you’re working toward
Use a coding assistant to map a project, explain unfamiliar modules and prepare questions before making changes.
Who it’s for: Developers joining an unfamiliar project. Experience: intermediate.
A practical way to start
- Open a repository you are authorized to inspect and read its contribution instructions.
- Ask the assistant to explain the main entry points and cite file paths for its explanation.
- Read those files yourself, then ask focused follow-up questions about one component.
- Confirm assumptions with the existing tests before proposing a change.
Know the limits
- Explanations can be wrong or miss dynamic behavior.
- Do not provide secrets or proprietary code to an unauthorized service.
- Gemini CLI’s current README directs unpaid and Google One users to Antigravity CLI. Verify your account access before selecting it as an alternative.
Cost and alternatives
Check the tool profiles and current provider plans before starting. Model usage, hosting and optional connectors may have separate costs. Alternative tools need their own configuration and evaluation.
