TL;DR

What did u/MrMurrayOHS use NotebookLM for?

To keep up with three preps both semesters and still leave work at school, a teacher uses NotebookLM so it only works from the resources they provide, then generates presentations and study guides from them. As a parent of three kids under five teaching three different preps, they say it lets them leave work at school, spend time with their kids and keep pace with very little prep time.

What they did

They load NotebookLM (now also called Gemini Notebook) with the resources they want it to use and nothing else, which they say helps reduce or eliminate hallucinations. From there they use it to generate presentations and study guides. They do not use AI for grading or for creating worksheets.

How it went

As a parent of three kids under five teaching three different preps, they say it lets them leave work at school, spend time with their kids and keep pace with very little prep time.

Worth knowing

  • They say limiting it to your own sources can help reduce or eliminate made-up facts, but it still needs checking before anything reaches students. They deliberately keep AI away from grading and worksheets.

Try it yourself

Paste this into a chatbot, then add your own details underneath.

Using only the sources in this notebook, make a study guide for [unit] for [grade] students: 10 key terms with plain definitions, the 5 big ideas with one example each from the sources, and 8 practice questions with answers. After each point, note which source it came from. If something isn't in the sources, say so instead of filling it in.
