Bench jeweler uses Gemini's Nano Banana to turn old, flat ring photos into on-hand and lifestyle marketing shots

TL;DR

What did Joel McFadden Explains use Gemini for?

A jewelry store owner who doesn't use AI to design rings uploads older product photos and CAD screenshots to Gemini and describes the scene in plain English, like the exact ring on a woman's hand, instead of editing in Photoshop or rendering in CAD software. Older, plain photos became more exciting marketing images that stayed fairly true to the rings. A CAD screenshot became a usable photorealistic image without the 10 or 20 minutes they would usually spend rendering it in other software.

What they did

They took older stock-style photos of their own pieces, such as a green gold pendant with a peridot, and asked Gemini's Nano Banana to place the piece on a white cloth on a table, put an engagement ring on a woman's hand holding a glass, or put a ring on a fashion magazine cover while keeping it exactly as it appears. They also uploaded a screen capture from their jewelry CAD program and asked for a photorealistic render, then animated a finished image into a short clip for TikTok, Instagram or YouTube Shorts.

How it went

Older, plain photos became more exciting marketing images that stayed fairly true to the rings. A CAD screenshot became a usable photorealistic image without the 10 or 20 minutes they would usually spend rendering it in other software.

Worth knowing

  • They say every extra edit step gives the AI another chance to change details and make a mess, and renders don't always come out right. Check that stones, metal color and settings still match the real piece before you sell from the image.
  • Price check: Google Gemini: free plan; Google AI Plus: US$4.99/month (checked Nov 1, 2026).

Here is a photo of my [ring / pendant]. Keep the piece exactly as it appears: same metal color, stones, setting and proportions. Place it [on a woman's left hand holding a glass / on a white linen cloth on a wooden table / in an open ring box] with soft natural light and a shallow background blur. Don't add or remove any stones.
