THEIR CLAIM

80% of the work done by one skill; prompts save 4+ hours per week

TL;DR

What did Julia Thompson use Claude Cowork for?

A freelance podcast producer connected Claude Cowork to Descript and built a separate skill for each show. One skill runs the first edit pass, writes show notes and briefs the visuals, and they check everything by listening to the full episode. They say one skill now does 80% of the work while they're away from the computer. They now produce more for each episode on each platform while working part time.

What they did

They connect Claude Cowork to Descript through the connector and keep one skill per show, because each show needs different edits; one gets a thorough cleanup, another only loses its ums. The skill does the first pass: Studio Sound, filler words, shorter pauses, intro and outro, transitions and clip selections, striking text through instead of deleting so every cut can be reviewed. A project holds each show's voice rules, and the show notes skill drafts titles, descriptions, a blog post, a YouTube description and an email. It also writes briefs for Claude Design to make thumbnails, Story slides and Reel covers. When a draft falls short, they edit it in chat and ask Claude to update the skill.

How it went

They say one skill now does 80% of the work while they're away from the computer. They now produce more for each episode on each platform while working part time.

"Now I run one skill and it does 80% of the work for me while I’m not even at my computer."

Worth knowing

  • It wasn't a time-saver at first; it took several episodes to get the prompts and skills right. Claude has said an edit was made when it wasn't, so they listen to the whole episode afterward. Titles rarely land on the first try, and they usually adjust the clips it picks. They once burned through most of a client's fee in AI credits on an audio fix before asking Claude for a better approach.
  • Price check: Claude: free plan; Pro: US$20/month, or US$17/month on a yearly plan (US$200/year) (checked Nov 1, 2026); Descript: free plan; Hobbyist: US$24/month, or US$16/month on a yearly plan (US$192/year) (checked Oct 26, 2026).

Read the transcript for [episode] and pick [number] social clip candidates. Each needs a hook in the first sentence, one clear teaching point and to make sense with no context, at 45 to 90 seconds. Give the exact words, approximate start and end times, and one line on why it works. Rank them, and don't build anything yet.
